Explore the Mighty Luit

Join our paddling community on the Brahmaputra River

About Luit Paddlers

Luit Paddlers is a community of canoeists, kayakers and river lovers who share a passion for exploring the Brahmaputra River (locally known as the Luit). The Brahmaputra is one of Asia’s great trans‑boundary rivers, flowing for roughly 3,000 km through Tibet, India and Bangladesh. In Assam the river is affectionately called the Luit or Burha Luit (literally “old Luit”), and it features prominently in folk stories, songs and poems. Our club takes its name from this cultural heritage and strives to cultivate a healthy relationship with the river through recreational paddling, environmental stewardship and community outreach.

With a width that ranges from tranquil, glass‑smooth waters to braided channels and tidal bores, the Brahmaputra offers experiences for paddlers of every level. Whether you are new to kayaking or an experienced whitewater enthusiast, there is a place for you here. We organise regular training sessions, river safaris and clean‑up campaigns to keep our beloved Luit pristine and accessible.

Our Activities

Thanks to a network of rivers, rivulets and mountain streams, Assam is ideal for white‑water rafting, canoeing, kayaking and other water sports. Luit Paddlers taps into this natural playground with a range of activities that cater to different interests and skill levels. Here are just a few highlights:

Flatwater Paddling

Perfect for beginners and families, our flatwater sessions take place on calm stretches of the Luit where you can learn basic strokes, practice safety techniques and enjoy the scenery.

Whitewater Adventures

For thrill‑seekers, our experienced guides lead trips down the Brahmaputra’s braided channels and rapids. These excursions emphasise teamwork, river reading and respect for the natural forces that shape the valley.

Eco‑Tours & Clean‑ups

We host regular river clean‑up drives and eco‑tours to raise awareness about pollution and habitat loss. Participants collect debris, learn about local ecology and contribute to keeping the riverbanks healthy.

Skills Workshops

Join our workshops on paddling techniques, rescue skills and expedition planning. Designed for all abilities, these sessions build confidence and independence on the water.
